It feels like only days ago I came to Paris — and now it is the middle of May possibly.
And, with additional time behind me than ahead of me (I leave June 19), as I appear back on my time right here, I can not say I’ve noticed as substantially of Paris as I intended.
I haven’t visited 1 new attraction. Or taken 1 day trip out of the city. Or gone to a further area of the nation. Or even the outlying neighborhoods of the city, truly. Practically nothing.
I have taken 5 walking tours (so I did anything).
But that is it.
That is the extent of my explorations of Paris.
But, as I mull that more than, I understand I do not truly care about that stat.
For the reason that I’ve accomplished what I came to Paris to do: produce a quiet life.
My time right here so far has been characterized additional by writing, sleeping, and, general, just typically “chilling.”
I’ve produced a handful of pals — and, thanks to mentioned new pals, exponentially improved the quantity of preferred restaurants and bars on my Google map. (So, I guess, if I have accomplished a lot of something, it is consuming and drinking.)
Each spot, each and every moment has a lesson in it. Each spot is great for particular occasions in your life. Thailand was the spot I require to discover my independent self. New York City was what I required when I transitioned from nomad to non-nomad. They have been the great bridges to a new phase of life.
Paris is my bridge to a quieter life.
But, additional than that, Paris has taught me anything about myself I didn’t completely understand till now:
I’m the most motivated when I really feel I have restricted time.
I came to Paris guns blazing, with a grand vision that I’d have all this time to discover. I was going to do so substantially.
But 3-hour lunches take up a lot of your day. So does perform. So does dinner with pals. So do a plethora of visits from other pals.
When you reside someplace (as an alternative of just going to), there’s generally tomorrow. When I really feel like there’s a tomorrow, I’m much less inclined to leave my comfort zone. I perform, study, sleep, and consume.
So I generally place anything off. I wanted to perform anyways. I was in no rush.
But ultimately, you run out of tomorrows.
All of a sudden, you wake up and months have passed and you marvel at how promptly time went by.
Now, the clock is ticking down swiftly and I’m prepared to kick issues into higher gear.
With only about six weeks in Europe left (and only half of them in Paris), I’ve begun to book additional walking tours, museum visits, and cooking classes, plus trips to Bordeaux and Normandy. (Booking all this in advance guarantees I will not locate a perform explanation to skip it!)
Searching back, I do not assume I’d alter a factor, although. I required some R&R. Not only from travel but from life. I required time to get my head appropriate once again. To wind down projects, loosen up, and get some motivation back. I required to take a step back and hit the reset button.
I’m heading to Normandy subsequent week. Right after that, I’m off to Italy. Then it is my birthday.
Then it is dwelling.
For now, at least.
Right after that, who knows?
If Paris reminded me of something, it is that I require to cease arranging and accept that when I do make plans, I’m most likely to just do the opposite.
I just require to see exactly where the day requires me.

Book Your Flight
Come across a affordable flight by utilizing Skyscanner or Momondo. They are my two preferred search engines due to the fact they search internet websites and airlines about the globe so you generally know no stone is left unturned.
Book Your Accommodation
You can book your hostel with Hostelworld. If you want to keep someplace other than a hostel, use Booking.com as they regularly return the least expensive prices for guesthouses and affordable hotels. I use them all the time. Some of my preferred locations to keep in Paris are:
