Heather checked into St. Vincent today at 10:30. She had to get a nuclear dye injected into her milk ducts to track the lymph nodes that need to be removed. She came back to the waiting room in tears. Said it was the most painful experience she had ever had as the dye went through her body. She actually compared it to the Hunger Games and said she had been attacked by tracker jackets….. She will start crying just talking about the experience. She was in a lot of pain for a while. Then it was a waiting game until she has surgery at 3:30 where they will finish the partial mastectomy on her right breast and remove the necessary lymph nodes from under the arm.
Just talked to Dr. Fant and everything went well. Heather is in recovery. Dr. Fant said the lymph nodes looked good and were soft, which is a good sign. They still have to be put under the microscope to determine if there are any cancer cells in them. But she was optimistic about them. We meet with the oncologist on Thursday and we should come out of that meeting with an understanding of what treatment is needed as far as chemo and radiation.
