Come help me cheer on thousands of other ladies racing for a cure!
This week at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is PINK WEEK, benefiting FIGHTING FANCY. Each day there is a series of games and events centered around creating awareness for Breast Cancer and to collect items for the Fighting Fancy bags.
Cathy Passananti is the Assistant Director at SIUe and is responsible for creating Pink Week. She contacted me last year when she heard my story on Facebook. She went to high school with my husband in Chicago and upon reading my story she immediately knew she wanted to help out. She has spent months planning this week and I’m honored to be a part of it from afar! Here are some of the pictures Cathy sent me today!
To follow along on twitter use the hashtag #SUIePinkWeek
This week at Scarlet, if you donate up to $50 to Fighting Fancy, Scarlet will match your donation. Not only that but the amount you donate will be taken off your Scarlet bill. So its a win-win for everyone!!!!! Come into Scarlet and Save Second Base!
Scarlet is located in Pleasant Ridge next to Panera Bread. Follow them on instagram under @scarletclothing To call and donate to FF just tell them you want to Save Second Base! 501-223-8585
Tomorrow starts day one of Breast Cancer awareness month! So get ready for lots of lot of pink and boob talk. I’m gathering my team for Race for the Cure Little Rock which will be on October 19th. You can sign up for team Fighting Fancy on the Susan G Komen website by clicking THIS LINK. Instead of running the race this year I am going to have an area for Fighting Fancy set up in front of Tropical Smoothie on Broadway cheering on all the runners! We will have music, free smoothies and Fighting Fancy give aways! Sounds fun right? So you should join my team!
This year Little Rock has two amazing Honorary Co-chairs of Race for the Cure: Former President, Bill Clinton, and Razorback Coach, Bret Bielema. Coach Bielema’s mom battled breast cancer herself so this is a subject that hits close to home for him and his family. I just watched this video he made this morning. So sweet!
A few blog post ago I told you about Maeghan, my chemo nurse who is now going through chemo herself. She completed her second round of AC yesterday. This morning I woke up to a text that said “the hair has to go. Who can shave it for me?” So I called my friend who shaved my head and with in the hour Maeghan was sitting in the chair ready to say sayonara to her long brown hair. She did great and looks beautiful!
Hard to believe it was me sitting in that chair just last year. Such an emotional day for everyone. Thanks for sharing such a big day with me today Maeghan! You look amazing!
Just had my monthly meeting with Dr. Wilder, blood work and port flush. For the past 18 months I have had my port accessed over 100 times. My blood pressure is taken before every stick. Since I had lymph nodes removed under my right arm, I can never get my blood drawn or get my blood pressure taken from that arm. So for 100 plus visits the nurse turns to me and ask “which arm can I use?” Today she asked me and I just stared at her. I couldn’t remember which one I was supposed to use. She started laughing and then just clapped. She said excitedly “see, life goes on!” And then we both started laughing.
It was a small little victory. Cancer doesn’t control my every thought anymore and life goes on. It’s a happy Tuesday!
Oh, does anyone still have their port? How long am I supposed to keep Ellen? I sort of love her. But she did not want to give up any blood today. I made sure to put numbing cream on her this morning so it didn’t hurt but she will for sure be bruised tomorrow.
Now time to get to work! If you are in little rock, come see me at Georgia James in Pleasant Ridge! I have fighting fancy tanks, cups and koozies!
